In the run-up to the start of this year’s Deaf Awareness Week, GP and medical broadcaster, Dr Hilary Jones, has been helping us to generate headlines for the nationwide LoveYourEars campaign, along with other high-profile supporters, including actress and author Samantha Baines and award-winning poet Raymond Antrobus MBE.

Dr Hilary has helped to demonstrate how everyday situations in the workplace can either help or hinder people with hearing loss or deafness, through a filmed ‘Hearing at Work Experiment’, involving two volunteer office workers fitted with sound-cancelling ear plugs. A colleague turning away while talking and a meeting held in a noisy open-plan office are the hearing at work scenarios put to the test in the film.

The filmed scenarios are just two of the common office challenges identified by national research commissioned by our client, Hidden Hearing, that have informed a new LoveYourEars At Work awareness campaign.

The campaign’s research and supporters have so far generated over 100 pieces of media coverage, including:

  • Online news stories featuring Dr Hilary’s video in The Sun, The Mirror, The Daily Express and regional news sites across the UK, including 40+ news stories on websites with a domain authority of 70+.
  • Double-page features in The Sunday Mirror, The Sunday Express and The Sunday People.
  • A 3-page feature in Good Housekeeping magazine.
  • An interview with Samantha and Raymond on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme – listen to The Today Programme’s coverage here.
  • Regional TV and radio interviews with Dr Hilary Jones and professionals with hearing loss  – listen to BBC Radio Oxford’s coverage here.
